3.0 Electronic Ignition – Fits ’74-’77 CB/CL/CJ360 Twins

THE BEST WAY TO DETERMINE YOUR ADVANCER TYPE IS TO REMOVE THE POINTS PLATE AND FIND THE NUMBER STAMPED ON THE BASE OF THE ADVANCER. DO NOT GO BY THE NUMBERS STAMPED ON THE POINTS PLATE.

Below is a guide according to Honda’s specifications. Advance mechanisms on CB and CL360s were sometimes replaced at the dealers during recalls so there is sometimes deviation from this guide. If you are in doubt of what type of advancer you have, please contact us so we can assist you. There are photos of the advancers on the installation instructions page of this website.

CB360’s — advancer is stamped ‘312’
Early ’73 CL360’s — advancer is stamped ‘312’
Late ’73-’74 CL360’s — advancer is stamped ‘369’
CJ360’s — advancer is stamped ‘369’

PLEASE NOTE: All models manufactured before 1969 do not have a regulator as a stock feature of the charging system. While this does not matter with a points type ignition system, it is incompatible with the upgraded electronic ignition system. The electronic ignition system requires a steady regulated voltage to function properly. Bikes that do not have a voltage regulator will burn out the electronic system. Therefore, if you wish to use this system with your pre-1969 bike, it is mandatory that you upgrade the charging system.

*IMPORTANT: on models that do not have a regulator as a stock feature, you must purchase a single-unit regulator/rectifier (Type 1) to use this ignition.
Electronic ignitions are not compatible with non-regulated systems.

WARRANTY INFORMATION

Charlie’s Place warrants to the original purchaser that the electronic ignition shall be free from defects in parts and workmanship under normal use for one (1) year from date of purchase.

Charlie’s Place obligation under this warranty is limited to repair or replacement of any part found to be defective when returned postage paid to Charlie’s Place. The unit must be returned with evidence of purchase, and with a detailed description of the problem. The warranty will not apply if the product has been installed incorrectly, repaired or damaged by modification, misuse or accident. Using these ignitions with bikes that have known charging issues, bad coils, or other sub-standard electrical systems also voids any and all warranties.
